Front Stage - Summer '10

The time has come to begin the 3rd installment of The Tracker. Here is where we will fill in the line up of the 2011 Molson Canal Concert Series in Lockport NY. This is the 4th year of the series in Lockport and there are to be 9 shows again this summer.

Will Rusted Root and Our Lady Peace open the series for an unprecedented third year? Will people gripe about the line up? Will commenters try to push Journey cover bands for openers? We shall See.

Past years' threads are here:
2010 Series

Artists will be added as they are leaked/found up to the official series announcement date. The date is usually early June but was annouced mid-May last year after the whole line-up was eventually discovered. If anyone finds any information feel free to drop them in the comments below. Recent updates will be shown in red.

All shows are held outdoors at the Ulrich City Center downtown on Main St rain or shine and are free. Visiting Lockport and looking for other things to do? Look here: "Lockport on the Erie Canal"

Well some of the bands I had hope for got snatched up by an awesome Artpark lineup.....why can't we get the bands like .38special....zz-top....skynard....Nugent....every band is going to rock there....can't wait to see what leftovers we end up with....

Anonymous said...

Hope to se OLP again!!!!!!

Anonymous said...

Can't wait to see what leftovers we end up with?? What a jerk! I hope "anonymous" doesn't come to any of the concerts this summer! Half the joy of these concerts is the beautiful summer nights and the great people performing, as well as watching. Anonymous has it all wrong. Get it right! Appreciate what we have, for cryin' out loud!!

Anonymous said...

I have def heard rumors that the promoter is having problems and we might end up with nothing this year! Thats'w why they keep postponing the announcement...........

Anonymous said...

I am calling BS on those posts. The announcement was May 18 last year, it is May 18 this year. The trolling needs to stop!

Anonymous said...

SHOULD CONSIDER BRINGING IN BANDS FOR THE YOUNGER KIDS AS WELL THAT THEY KNOW. HOW ABOUT DINOSAUR JR OR EVEN NOFX WOULD BE GREAT EVEN THOUGH IT WONT HAPPEN. OR BRING IN LOCAL TALENT LIKE STRICKLY HIP

David said...

According to their web site, One World Tribe has been added for July 15.

Anonymous said...

dennis d young and puddle of mudd are for sure.also hearing weird al!!! please dont!!! he will get booded off stage by smallest crowd ever!!!!

Tme for a big clean up since some people can not keep on topic. There are a number of posts on the concert benefits-costs-etc. Sorry to remove the discussion but the warning is clearly written in the post. Feel free to repos tin the appropriate place.

G.I.Joe said...

MJ...do what you like, but I think objecting to the Series is part of the discussion..

MJ said...

It is not part of the discussion of "the bands are that playing". It is part of the discussion of the benfits of the concert series, the contract for the concerts etc and there are posts on that.

If you want to guest post on why the concerts are bad for the city, email it to me and I'd be happy to post it for discussion.

And FYI to another poster...Harrison was once a "small business" and you are correct small business is always the key. Like children,we need to keep creating them to carry on. Like children some grow up to be more sucessful than others. And all will have a lifespan.

Now please back on topic in this post.

One world Tribe..... Who?.....it shows on there website that a national act is TBD....

Anonymous said...

One World Tribe is a GREAT band, but they are not the headliner.

Anonymous said...

Ok...been searching and surfing. Here are my guesses. I think the B-52s are probable, Dennis DeYoung is a lock and Third Eye Blind is the opener. All of them are playing Stamford Ct's Alive at 5 on Thursdays. It's a one day trip and obviously those groups are playing the free/reduced circuit. MC Hammer is the wildcard, he is out there, and an eighties act. I am not confident on the pick but would not be totally surprised.

Train is a real long shot...that is sad. Puddle of Mud is a maybe but seems like they have limited appeal and not family friendly.

Those are my educated guesses

Anonymous said...

Can't wait to see Our Lady Peace....AGAIN. Yippie.

Burton Cummings will be backed up by the band Carpet Frogs. He quit smoking 2 years ago. This may end up being the concert of the summer.

Anonymous said...

Burton Cummings will have a full backing band this year, the Carpet Frogs. This concert could be the event of the summer.

Anonymous said...

The Tea Party in July

Wild Bill said...

For those Rusted Root fans wanting to see them, here they are:

Saturday June 4th
Rapids Theater
Niagara Falls, NY

Tickets go on sale Wednesday May 18th and are only $15.

Great Find!

"Burton Cummings will have a full backing band this year, the Carpet Frogs. This concert could be the event of the summer."

ZZ Top will be the event of the summer.

Anonymous said...

Just wondering why the Queensryche website lists their Aug 12 concert location as North Tonawanda, NY

MJ said...

You'll see a band or two do that year to year. Some even say "Canal Fest" etc. They must be using old info or something when they list the show.

Anonymous said...

Please bring The Tea Party. The original lineup is reunited and doing some shows this summer after 6 yrs apart

MJ said...

Supposidly today is the day we find out the list. Tea Party reunited would be great. It's been a boring year with minimal leaks. We must have irked the promoter the past two years ;)

Anonymous said...

Very solid lineup.. definites on my list are Puddle of Mudd and Dennis DeYoung.

MJ said...

I agree. I'm looking forward to the second half of the schedule. Between this and Artpark it'll be a busy summer.

Anonymous said...

Steven Page is *formerly* of BNL.

MJ said...

As Dennis D Young is *formerly* of Styx. Consider it a given.

Anonymous said...

Buff New has different dates for Puddle and Tea Part:
June 24 Steven Page
July 1 Dennis DeYoung
July 8 Burton Cummings
July 15 John Butler Trio with the Ragbirds and One World Tribe
July 22 The Tea Party with the Pretty Reckless
July 29 Puddle of Mudd with Rev Theory
Aug. 5 The B-52s
Aug. 12 Queensryche
Aug. 19 Grand Funk Railroad

which is correct?

ruvon said...

Please...PLEASE PLEASE let the Tea Party date be true! they were absolutely THE BEST (along with I Mother Earth) Canadian bands to come out of that whole group from the 90's! The Hip were amazing, as were Thee Headstones, with OLP (who after every album since Clumsy sounded the same one trick pony) but to me, and after hearing all of the different influences that The Tea Party channeled, was everything I ever wanted in a rock band! This would be my sixth time seeing them, and after the break up 2006 I thought I would never live to see the day to take part in the magic these three artists create on stage! SO INCREDIBLY EXCITED TO HEAR THIS NEWS!!!!

Anonymous said...

The John Butler Trio...Who???

Anonymous said...

www.canalconcerts.com has all the headliners listed on there website with opening acts.My favorites this year are Queensryche,Puddle Of Mudd and The Tea Party.Artpark has the best lineup this year but there all bands from the 70's.Lockport has more variety and is 2nd in my opinion and Thursday at the Square is in last place again!

Anonymous said...

Any chance of getting Tony Clifton to perform? He has millions of followers.

Anonymous said...

not unless you raise him from the dead......

Anonymous said...

Great job on the bands this year. There are a lot of great choices at all the venues around Western New York this summer. Thanks to the sponsors(and support them) for bringing these FREE- yes, remember FREE concerts to our area! Buffalo is the best place to live-especially in the summer!!!!
PS- No, I do not work for any of them- just an appreciative concert goer!

MJ said...

Please don't say the "f" word.......

(free) ;)

Because we all know it cost 125k for the city to put these on. Or $6.25 per city resident. The price of a quarter to third of a ticket for one person if they chose to go pay to see any of these artist. If one feels this is good or bad is up to them.

Anyone can feel free to e-mail me a thought out reason why this is bad for Lockport and I'd guest post it. We'll consider this an invitation. Please leave it out of this post.

Wild Bill said...

I think this year has a great lineup. Perfect mix of old artists and a few that people in their 20's would know and enjoy.

I'll be going to these ones:

7/01 - Dennis DeYoung of Styx
7/08 - Burton Cummings of the Guess Who
7/22 - The Tea Party (with the Pretty Reckless)
7/29 - Puddle of Mudd (with Rev Theory)
8/05 - B52s
8/12 - Queensryche
8/19 - Grand Funk Railroad with (Bruce Kulnick)

As a 26 year old, I think many people will come out this year, regardless of age.

Queensryche will be doing A LOT of their hits as opposed to last time with the new album. Most excited for that show.

Anonymous said...

Tony Clifton is alive and well. He performs regularly and has a Facebook account!

Anonymous said...

The Pretty Reckless playing here 3 days after Taylor Momsen turns 18? We already know how she dresses now haha.

I went to Rock On The Range in Columbus OH. Two days with over 40 bands- it was a huge concert. Both Puddle of Mudd and Rev Theory were there, they did GREAT.

Rev Theory has great energy on stage and I can't wait to hear both of these bands live again! I already took the day off of work. <3

It's a decent line up this year. Hope everyone has a good time...but I still want to see a specific breakdown of the financial.

MJ said...

Go to city hall and submit a FOIA request.

Anonymous said...

Why are the comments regarding GuyFawkes namesake being removed? Would you defend someone using the name Bin Laden or Hitler as well? Guy Fawkes was a religious terrorist clear and simple. Anyone willingly using the name must sympathize with someone who would kill to impose a specific type of religion on a country.

MJ said...

Maybe he's just likes the movie V for Vendetta? Who really cares when discussing concerts? Regardless it's off topic.

Moe said...

My last post was removed...but anon 8:36 I hope you have a nice time at the concerts, relax, open your mind, feel the love...Nighty-night

hitler said...

so because hitler has been portrayed in a comedic light, hitler is totally ok for a name? if so, that's my new name, no more anon for me, i'm hitler

MJ said...

If that's what you want to be know as and the name you would like your ideas attached too, feel free to do so. I'm not the PC police.

All I ask is keep comments on topic and don't take up space with worthless internet spats.
I have to spend too much time as is cleaning those up. I don't desire to become a name judge.

I'll assume that those who want their ideas taken seriously would pick a suitable name to attach them too.

MJ said...

And to get back on topic, first concert is 2 days away!

What are you trying to prove with all the 3rd person references? That you can put on a 5yr old's temper tantrum? You got your name. Leave it be. Otherwise you'll be wasting your time as your comments are deleted.

The website mentions happy hour from 5:30-7:30pm. What are the specials?

Little Johnny said...

shucks...all my good Hitler comments were taken out.....

Anonymous said...

Wat time do these concerts start?

Anonymous said...

Happy Hour:
I heard they raised the prices of beer and then made "happy hour" $3.00 (the old price) until 7:30pm. Anyone confirm this??

Anonymous said...

Whats with the VIP parking area.
Take one of the biggest parking lots on Walnut and rope it off.And have half the parking lot empty.
Also how about the price of tickets they go up after 7:30pm.
Also didnt like the poltics of mayor mike tucker, hearing the announcer say make sure you vote for the mike tucker

Anonymous said...

Forget all the politics for a minute. Chill out, have a beer or two....Burton Cummings will be there this Friday.

MJ said...

Clean up since people cannot read or at the every least comprehend what they read. Put your gripes in an appropriate post.

Tonight is the night. Bring it on!

A young woman I know went to Friday's Burton Cummings concert with a bunch of friends and family. Having been on my Millard Suburban vacation I kind of lost track of who was this past week's offering. I also couldn't have stood too long.
Earlier in the day she mentioned they were going. When I asked her who was playing she said "Burton somebody?" I said CUMMINGS?" "Yeah, that's it."
Now this young lady has a Doctorate and is also very involved in the arts - she's no dumbbell.
I then realized that I'm a heck of a lot older than I think I am. ;- ) !!

Tonight's show is the one I have been waiting for.
Bring on 30 years of Queensryche material.

Great concert you could tell by the end of the show tate was struggling to sing the last few songs. Not bad for being out of the hospital last week with a sick throat and probably strained vocal cords. Singing at his range for any period of time can kill anyones vocal cords, i am amazed at how he is still singing. They definately shortened thier playlist by 3 songs, but im so glad they played all their most popular songs. I want to thank the band and mostly tate for playing at lockport again, you guys were great!!!

MJ said...

This was posted in the other "dead" concert thread:

"The August 12 show was awesome! Sure, JT has a little trouble with some of the high notes from the older songs, but the overall experience was incredible!! Their encore by itself--Jet City Woman, Empire, Eyes of a Stranger--was a nearly orgasmic experience. If you're a closet QR fan that has never seen them live, it's NOT TOO LATE!!!"

Anonymous said...

I was real disappointed in the crowd last Friday (and also at a few other concerts), it just seems like it's kind of a 'scary' crowd there now. I know a lot of people avoiding the inside and staying in Taboo.

Anonymous said...

for 3 weeks in a row I have seen negative press about roving teens during the concerts, fights after the concert (this week), and now what is being described as a "scary crowd".

Any truth to these reports?

Anonymous said...

I think they should have just a few more concerts lined up! summer isn't over yet! and also it's still warm in Septemeber :)
