That's a bit disingenuous at best. We could a lot of these things if money was spent smarter.
That, I'd I say that my "standard of living erodes" (which it hasn't, and if you look at the numbers, it's not that it eroded, but is being adjusted properly after the bubble economy), when my taxes go up, and when government intervention increases. My standard of living goes up when my taxes go down, and my personal freedoms go up.
C'mon - I think everyone in the city knows Hoffman was laid off because Tucker didn't like him.. Why wasn't Junke laid off if her budget was cut 50%, do we really need a leader in her position? Oh, wait, she must be a friend of the King!
But besides that, this cartoon should show a happy face that we can afford $150,000 for concerts this summer even though we cut off half the park services for the kids this summer. All the adults should be real happy about that, shouldn't they?
Assuming, of course, that everyone who can see the benefit of having the concerts likes the idea that the summer youth program was cut, correct?
Me, I like having the concerts downtown, can see the benefit that the provide, AND am not happy about the youth programs being cut.
Well, sorry but it just stands out as a cost that we shouldn't be paying if we can't afford (what I onsider) essentials, which is trying to keep our kids involved and out of trouble.
I never said spending wiser was't an option. Simplified yes, but it hits a common theme. Try to cut budgets to force "wiser" spending etc and you still hear similar cries.
"We must close union offices, confiscate their money and put their leaders in prison. We must reduce workers salaries and take away their right to strike." Adolf Hitler, May 2, 1933
Sorry, but it shouldn't necessarily be the community's job to "keep the youth out of trouble." That doesn't mean that I think a youth department is unnecesssary, but when times get tough, you have to chose what's most important. I think it's unbelievable that the person running our youth department can't even adhere to a budget. Why hasn't she been repremanded for going over year after year? $30,000 could have easily been part of someone's salary like... Mike Hoffman!
I agree! We should spend our tax dollars on concerts and keep the adults entertained, the heck with the kids.
EXCELLENT anon. 4:03
'All you have to do is to tell them they are being attacked, and denounce the pacifists for lack of patriotism and exposing the country to danger. It works the same in every county.
Hermann Goering
I do believe that this one does apply to the City. NEVER let the little people see the Budget or we'd have time to READ THEM!
Nancy Pelosi comes to mind
Sorry - should be Country, although around here City, County and Town also apply.
Just curious did anyone watch last night's Council Meeting? It appears our Recreation Department went over budget $30,000 last year, $20,000 the year before, and who even knows before that??? It looks like Mr. Mullaney was requested by a resident to find out. Why doesn't anyone address this??? I find that appalling!
Why are you quoting Goering, and then mentioning Pelosi? I don't get it, is this some kind of baitr and switch thing?
Goerring = it IS possible to fool all the idiots (that would be us) all the time as long as you use propoganda wisely. The Nazis were masters at that.
Pelosi reference? "you'll know what's in it when we pass it."
I'd like to see the School Board Budget at some point before next Wednesday.
All ideas on how to obtain this are appreciated.
